Michael and his assistant had the unenviable task of putting Elsa our 15 year old Retriever to sleep today. You couldn't ask for more compassion and care, in what is a very traumatic experience. We thank you for your advice and dignified treatment for both us and Elsa, making a very difficult time more bearable, resulting in Elsa passing away peacefully.
It pains me to write such a negative review as we had been relatively happy with StVincents for a number of years (despite some issues) and had some good experiences although these soured after questioning and not being happy with the services provided.
My girl dog developed a cough, she’s now nearly 12 and treatment started over 3-4 years ago when she was around 9. Long story short, she was treated for kennel cough, which it wasn’t, she was then referred by StV’s to a Vet Specialist and went through all manner of treatment inc a potentially risky procedure in a ‘lung flush’… now, this is where the problem begins… if I take my car to a mechanic, I don’t want the problem I’m taking the mechanic to, to still be there in 3-4 years time, and this is the problem…
I pay these inflated, ridiculous charges for the vets experience and I expect a process of diagnosis to start with least invasive, least cost, to most invasive and most cost, which ultimately gets the dog fixed with the issue.
When I challenge the vet, they don’t like this, they don’t like me being frustrated that the experience, expertise and knowledge they acquire means that they should have checked off, obvious or at least, most common causes that it could be and diagnose and offer treatment to fix.
But here we are, 4+ years and my dog suffers from the same cough and hacking up, that she did on taking her to the vet.
We are now unable to claim on the insurance because it’s a ‘pre-existing’ condition and the extended platlet/pallet/hanging down part of the soft tissue causing the issue wasn’t diagnosed, treated and fixed, despite the merry dance down the specialist vet route at a cost of thousands…
We can’t go to specialist vet again because we need another referral and me voicing my opinion about the issue not being fixed in the 3-4 year period led our once trusted vet to walk away from a conversation claiming ‘I’m not having this conversation’…
so as a dog owner, with 4 dogs, I’ve pulled them from this vet that has let me down, refused to hear me out and to get us the fix that we feel our dog deserved.
I have a dog, that has a problem, that was never treated for the issue she has and still suffers from to this day, and I am unable to help her as it’s not covered by the insurance despite our £14k policy
Like I said, we were happy with St Vincent’s when we first came here, but clearly the relationship broke down with (in our opinion) excessive fees, poor treatment and a complete failure in being able to have grown up, adult conversation with someone we trusted with our dogs health.
How dare a customer question the care our dog gets.
I explained from day one that I had a distrust of vets, that they don’t try and get a dog better, they only treat a dog for maximising money and profit and for me, this is what it became
I was made to feel like a walking cash machine with charges that were massively over-inflated and when I question anything or want to discuss my fears, concerns and opinions on what’s best for my dog, I’m walked away from, refused a conversation and belittled in front of other employees, customers and not given the ability to be able to have a private conversation and listened to as someone that is paying them to not just treat my dog, but fix the issues by diagnosing them correctly, using experience and not just what makes them the most money.
I feel let down, I feel like I’ve failed my dog and I am not able to discuss any of this with a vet that refuses point blank to empathise with my frustrations even if they don’t agree with me… surely I have the right to challenge anyone that I’m paying a kings ransom for, that is accountable (or should be) for my dogs quality of life…
If you are looking for a rabbit savvy vets….this is not your place. I’ve lost 2 rabbits in 7 months here. One never knows what might have been the same anywhere and is just bad luck but there is a particular member here who was really rough with my two sweet bunnies. I’ll never be able to forget. The after hours service is also awful, I couldn’t get help. Medivet tried to save my last bunny who developed bloat after the length of time I couldn’t be seen and he didn’t make it. I you have rabbits I advise you to look elsewhere.

We sadly had to say goodbye to our dog rather unexpectedly last week, and I can’t praise the team here enough for the way they supported us throughout the whole process. We were treated with such patience, understanding and compassion, and they helped make our pup’s last moments with us as happy as they could be-something we’ll forever be grateful for.
